Repair 101: 6 Steps to Cleaning Your Refrigerator

From forgotten spills to expired food, your refrigerator may be in need of an intense scrub down. Not only will a good cleaning rid your appliance of any unpleasant odors, but it will also increase its efficiency level. Below we've provided you with a step by step cleaning guide to help you achieve a spotless, Las Cruces refrigerator.
How to clean your fridge
Try not to keep your fridge packed with things you don't need
  1. To begin the process, clear out all items and throw away any food that has expired. Starting with a blank slate will enable you to reach every nook and cranny of your fridge.
  2. Once the appliance is empty, remove its shelves and bins for a good old soak in hot, soapy water. If your kitchen sink isn't big enough, you can use your bathtub or your laundry sink. To soften the dried food covering the surface of the shelves and bins, we suggest leaving them submerged for at least an hour.
  3. While the shelves and bins are soaking, concentrate on wiping down the inside of your refrigerator. You can either use a store bought all-purpose cleaner, or you can make your own cleaning mixture with vinegar and water. Before finishing up, pay close attention to the appliance's door gasket. Scrub any dirt off the seal and look for cracks or rips in the rubber. If you find any, the gasket will need to be replaced.
  4. After an hour has passed, using a sponge, wipe down and rinse the shelves and bins. You can either dry the parts off by hand or lay them out to air dry, before placing them back in the refrigerator.
  5. Now comes the restocking of your fridge. Prior to placing any jars or containers back into your appliance, clean them off with a wet rag, to ensure they won't soil your freshly washed shelves.
  6. Since the interior of your refrigerator is clean and smelling nice, its time to focus on the outside of your appliance. First and foremost, you need to clean the condenser coils. Leaving them dirty will eventually cause a spike in your energy bill, and you'll risk shortening your refrigerator's life expectancy. Once that's done, move on to wiping down the exterior of your appliance. Soapy water and a sponge should do the trick, however if your fridge is stainless steal, you may want to consider using a dab of vinegar to get rid of unsightly fingerprints.
Keeping your appliance clean helps you avoid costly refrigerator repair expenses. If you're concerned with your fridge's performance, please contact us at Sobellas Las Cruces Appliance's Repair and we'll be happy to help you.

Refrigerator repair Las Cruces Experts’ Tips for Keeping St. Patty’s Day Staples Safe

Refrigerator Repair Las Cruces

It’s almost time to stock the kitchen with Irish foods and beverages. So, our refrigerator repair Las Cruces experts know that many of you may have questions about storing St. Patrick’s Day staples. That said, we’ve rounded up more refrigerator advice than anyone can shake a shillelagh at and put it into today’s blog post. Hopefully, it will help keep the green in your pockets and off of your corned beef and cabbage. So hold on to your shamrocks and let’s get started:
Corned Beef
Whether you’re making your own corned beef or buying it pre-seasoned, it doesn’t matter. Storing the leftovers should be handled in the same way. By all food experts’ accounts, it has to be put back into storage no more than two hours after it comes out of the oven or crockpot. If you are going to put it in the refrigerator, make sure that the family eats it up within four days. If that’s not possible, freeze it instead. Just be sure to finish off the leftovers within three months. Otherwise, the corned beef will lose its delicious flavor.
Boiled Cabbage
As for the boiled cabbage, try to convince the family to finish off the pot before they leave the table. That’s because cooked cabbage does not store well at all, whether you put it into the fridge or freezer. It has a propensity to lose texture, a lot of flavor and color within hours. So it’s highly unlikely that anyone will find it appetizing after a day or two in cold storage. Nonetheless, if you want to save it anyway, put it in the fridge the same time you pack away the leftover corned beef.
Boiled Potatoes
Similar can be said about those lovely, boiled potatoes. They have a tendency to discolor and turn mushy if left in the fridge or freezer to long. If everyone is too full to eat them, try covering the potatoes with paper towels and putting them in to the fridge within two hours of boiling. The towels should help sop up any excess moisture until you’re ready to reheat them. If you’d rather freeze them, that’s okay too. Just follow basic flash freezing procedures before bagging them up for later. Oh, and be sure to finish them off within a month or two. Failure to do so may leave you with a tasteless, mushy, discolored mess.
Irish Cream

Are you planning on serving homemade Irish cream too? If so, keep in mind that it is made from dairy products. Consequently, any leftovers should go immediately into an air-tight, sterilized container and directly into the fridge. Then encourage the family to drink it all up within a week. Otherwise, the milk may spoil and make everyone deathly sick. To learn more about making your kitchen’s appliances work for you all year round, please contact our refrigerator repair Las Cruces team today.

GE Appliance Repair Las Cruces: Turbo Freeze

appliance repair
Turbo Freeze Refrigerator Setting

GE Appliance Repair Las Cruces

Just the other day, our Las Cruces GE appliance repair team members were talking about all of the settings available on contemporary freezers. One setting that sometimes confuses people is Turbo Freeze. They wonder, “What is Turbo Freeze and why would I need to use it?” Given that, our team members wanted to share their answers:
To begin with, it’s a setting that temporarily alters the unit’s interior temperature for a designated period of time. The designated period of time varies from one brand of residential freezer to another. In some cases, it’s 24 hours and in others, it’s 72 hours. The time frame works hand-in-hand with the temperature setting assigned to the feature.
At this moment, we’re sure many of you think such a setting would be pointless when most of today’s freezers have built-in thermostats that people can control at will. While it is true there are built-in thermostats, the feature offers consumers something else. It’s the ability to “set it and forget it” in certain situations that warrant a temperature change. Which situations are those? Our GE appliance team is about to explain.
Although modern freezers are built to reach and maintain temperature, they are often things that temporarily prevent that from happening. For example, let’s pretend that someone opens up the freezer and stands there trying to decide whether to eat a pint of banana fudge ice cream or raspberry sorbet. The longer that person’s indecision lasts, the more cold air escapes into the kitchen.
Once the freezer door is closed, the setting helps reverse that situation. It instructs the cooling system to kick into overdrive until all of the cold air is restored. Then it automatically shuts off. Allowing it to go beyond that point would not be energy-efficient. Hence, that is why time allotments are built into the feature. To learn more about it or other matters related to freezers, please contact our Las Cruces GE appliance repair team members today.

Refrigerator Repair Tech’s Tips for Making the Most of Bottom Freezer Storage

Refrigerator Repair Las Cruces Pro Tips
refrigerator repair
Refrigerator Repair Las Cruces

Contemporary kitchen appliances give us the option of choosing models where the freezer is on top, adjacent to or underneath of the main refrigeration area. That said, organizing frozen foods is rather self-explanatory when it comes to side-by-side and top models but not the bottom ones. They’re a bit tricky because if filled the wrong way, the pull-out drawers may get jammed shut.
Understandably, that often leads to a service visit by our refrigerator repair Las Cruces techs. Although we are always happy to come out within 24-hours and professionally service refrigerators whose doors have accidentally been stuck shut, we know many of you would just rather avoid jammed drawers in the first place. So, we’ve put together a few organizational dos and don’ts for households with bottom drawer freezers:
Do remove the bulky packaging whenever possible and put frozen goodies in marked, resealable, freezer bags instead. It will not only save room but make it easier to quickly see at a glance which frozen foods need to be consumed first. Oh, and if you are worried about forgetting the manufacturer’s reheat instructions, stop. Simply cut them off of the box and slip the card into the freezer bag with the food items in question.
Don’t forget to freeze homemade and repackaged items as flat and thin as possible. Afterward, separate your bottom drawer in to designated sections and stick with it so you can store those freezer bags as close together as possible. For example, put frozen veggies on one side of the bottom freezer and frozen meats on the other.
Do utilize the top drawer or basket. Many modern-day, bottom freezer refrigerators come with long, shallow, wire baskets. To make the best of the drawer or basket, use it to store soups and small portion items that may be placed into diminutive, plastic containers (e.g. Chinese take-out pints). And don’t forget to put a label on the top of each container!
That’s our refrigerator repair tech’s bottom freezer storage tips for the day. To learn more about keeping your home’s freezer or fridge in tip-top shape, please contact us in Las Cruces today.

Rely on Maytag Appliance Repair Pros to Help Winterize Vacation Homes

Appliance Repair Las Cruses for Vacation Homes
Vacation Home Winter Repairs
Appliance Repair for the Winter

Sadly, it’s almost time to close up those vacation homes for the winter months. And that bittersweet task should include winterizing the properties’ appliances. Remember, appliances plug into vacation homes’ important systems, which are often tied to local service providers. Examples include gas, electric and water companies. So at the very least, those companies will need to shut off service until spring.
Maytag appliance repair companies have the ability to assist vacationers with winterization tasks too. First and foremost, they can help drain appliances of fluids that may freeze up during the cold weather. Drainage is essential because frozen fluids will expand and contract, which could damage appliances’ internal plumbing. Second, Maytag appliance repair businesses can check other substances and materials that have a tendency to respond poorly to cold weather. For instance, when exposed to prolong cold, motor oils and grease may begin to thicken or solidify. As a result, they are apt to breakdown as well as gum up or degrade any parts that they routinely come into contact with during normal use.
Third, service professionals can work with utility service providers to help ensure that electrical components won’t cause fires while homeowners are away. Our Maytag team can check the appliances’ inner workings as well as the utility feed to the point of entry. The utility service provider can then check the remaining portion of the delivery system before shutting it down for the winter. Afterward, any fire risk should be completely mitigated.
Fourth, Maytag experts can take steps to prevent animals and the winter elements from entering vacation homes through appliance ventilation systems. Obviously, it is crucial to keep those two things out of vacation homes. After all, the animals can chew internal components and moisture may cause fungal growth or electrical shortages. To learn more about why Maytag appliance repair companies should be called in to help winterize vacation homes, please contact SoBellas Appliance Repair.

Sub-Zero® Refrigerator Repair: Troubleshooting Built-ins is Easy for the Pros

Subzero refrigerator repair Las Cruces
Sub Zero Refrigerator Repair

Sub-Zero® manufactures a number of refrigerator and freezer combinations. Among the most popular are refrigerator and freezer drawers. People love them because they traditionally take up so little floor space. They take up precious little square footage because they are generally installed underneath of counter tops and inside of kitchen islands.
For the homeowner, this may seem like it would make Sub Zero refrigerator repair difficult. However, our Sub-Zero refrigerator repair team in Las Cruces is here to say that from a professional’s perspective, working on the company’s built-in drawer models is not as difficult as it initially appears. As experts in the field, we’ve been trained to troubleshoot all Sub Zero refrigerators, including the smallest built-ins.
In general, there are only a handful of things that typically go wrong with Sub Zero built-ins. They tend to fall in at least one of the following categories:
  • Water Dispenser Production or Water Quality Problems
  • Refrigerator and Freezer Drawer Odors
  • Ice Production or Ice Quality Issues
  • Frost or Condensation Woes
  • Electrical Problems
  • Cooling and Heating Issues
  • Interior Lighting (e.g. Bulb Burns Out)
  • Food/Beverage Odors and Food/Beverage Quality Problems
Our Sub Zero refrigerator repair Las Cruces team is familiar with them all. For example, discolored ice is generally a sign that there’s a problem with the home’s plumbing system, or more specifically, the refrigerator’s water supply line. Oftentimes, such problems are corrected by a combination of water conditioning and supply line repair or replacement.
As far as the food and beverage issues go, they are frequently corrected without making a frantic call to our Sub-Zero® refrigerator repair experts. Sometimes it is a matter of cleaning and defrosting the machine. In other instances, homeowners may need to use better refrigerator or freezer storage containers to help keep burn and odor issues to a minimum. To learn more about Sub Zero refrigerator repair and general maintenance, please contact us online or by phone in Las Cruces. Our team of built-in refrigeration experts will get back to you right away.

Washer Repair Pro Discusses High-Efficiency Machine Dos and Don’ts

High-efficiency washing machines are one of the products that our washer repair pros encounter during their normal course of business. And we have to say; oftentimes the problems that they’ve run across on HE washer repair calls could have been avoided. So to help our
HE washer front load, tips
HE Front Load Washer
Las Cruses customers out, we wanted to take a second to go over a few general do’s and don’ts:

Do make it a point to only use laundry products that are recommended by the washing machine’s manufacturer. Otherwise, you could inadvertently break the machine, void the warranty and end up with a pile of dirty clothes on your hands. Most manufacturers will list which products are safe to use with their machines in print or online owners’ manuals.

Don’t be fooled by misleading labels. Marketers know that HE washing machines are growing in popularity. Thus, many unscrupulous companies have added words like “HE compatible” to their products’ packaging. Just because the label has those words on it, doesn’t make the statement true. After all, not all HE washers are created equal. So broad terms, like “HE compatible”, are simply not going to cut it.

Do make it a point to utilize your HE washer’s maintenance cycle. It is there to help remove build-up that may occur as a result of using the machine improperly or washing exceptionally soiled clothes. If your machine does not have a maintenance cycle feature, don’t worry. Frequently, the same results may be obtained by leaving the washer empty and running it through its paces. Plus, our washer repair team can always routinely service the machine for you too. Our routine, washer maintenance calls often include cleaning the machine’s interior as needed.

Lastly, don’t use the dispenser compartments incorrectly. For example, make sure that fabric softeners are only poured into the fabric softener dispenser and that you don’t overfill the well. Otherwise, you could be calling our washing repair team a lot sooner than expected.

To learn more about properly caring for these and other washing machines, please contact us by calling (575)-636-2009. All of our washing repair experts are fully trained, insured, licensed and bonded. Same day service calls in Las Cruses, New Mexico are available in select areas.

Avoid Future Problems after Getting Refrigerator Repair

After getting Las Cruces refrigerator repair, you do not want to call them for another repair in the near future. Preventing this from happening is not that hard, but there are important steps that must be followed.
keeping your fridge ful is important
Make sure your fridge is sealed properly
to keep the cool air in

Make Sure Door Seals are Functioning Properly

If a refrigerator is not sealed properly, the cool air that it is working to create will seep out, making it work even harder to maintain a cool temperature inside. In most cases, this will be caused by food residue, so keeping an eye out for this is worthwhile. While a thorough cleaning should only be needed every once in a while, you should make sure to clean up any noticeable residue right away.

Keep It Filled to an Extent

While you may find it hard to keep your refrigerator full based on your shopping and eating habits, this does not mean you should leave it empty. Ideally, the more contents in your refrigerator, the easier it is on the refrigerator to maintain a cool temperature as thermal mass helps with the cooling process.

Keep the Coils Clean

It is not every day that you actually see the coils of your refrigerator. However, this does not take away the importance of them being clean and free of dust particles. Moving the refrigerator and cleaning the coils twice a year should be frequent enough, but homes that get extremely dusty may require more frequent cleanings. These coils can be located in the front-bottom area, or on the back of a refrigerator.
