Refrigerator Repair Pro's Tips for Avoiding Temp and Cross Contamination Woes

Refrigerator Repair Las Cruces New Mexico
Now that picnic season is here, our refrigerator repair pros wanted to talk about how to avoid temperature and cross contamination woes. Most modern-day fridges have design features that help address those issues but some people may not be aware of them. So because of that, we wanted to help out by spotlighting those features and offering a few tips:
Fresh-Food Temperature Control Features
To circumvent temperature related problems, use your refrigerator’s fresh-food temperature control feature. The location of the temperature control panel or knob will vary based on the brand. However, the knobs or panels tend to be located inside of the fridge, along the top of the side wall or back wall. Some contemporary fridges may also have temperature controls on the crispers, freezers and exterior door panels.
In most instances, the temperature should be below 40 degrees Fahrenheit but above freezing. Otherwise, your orange juice, milk, fruits and veggies are likely to develop ice crystals. If that happens, they’re apt to taste and look unappetizing. Plus, it could diminish the food and beverage’s nutritional values.
Once you’ve set the refrigerator’s temperature, wait a few hours. Then verify that all of the zones are at temperature with the aid of a portable, refrigerator thermometer. If you don’t already own a refrigerator thermometer, you may want to check out Consumer Reports magazine’s website. It contains up-to-date, portable, refrigerator thermometer reviews and ratings.
If your test reveals that the fridge doesn’t seem to be holding foods and beverages at the right temperatures, be sure to immediately schedule a refrigerator repair service call with our team. We can find out why the fridge isn’t staying at temperature and make repairs accordingly.
Sliding Shelves, Bins, Built-ins and More
Lastly, you’ll want to use the refrigerator’s interior shelving, bins and built-in compartments to minimize cross contamination problems. Remember to store raw foods separately from cooked foods and put juice laden items (i.e. bloody meats) in areas where they are less likely to drip or spill onto other foods. And don’t worry. If your fridge’s shelves and bins aren’t working properly, we can check them out during our refrigerator repair service calls too. To arrange a meeting with our refrigerator repair pros and learn more about keeping your refrigerated, picnic foods safe for consumption, please contact us at 575-636-2009.
