Don't Get Stuck During The Holidays With Oven Repair

Time is running out to get a reputable appliance repair specialist out to repair what’s wrong. If you’re having issues with any major appliance, make plenty of time and have it looked at before the best companies are all booked up for the holidays.
Most major appliances should run just fine doing their heating, cooling, washing, drying and grinding for a decade or more. Many of the appliances that die before their time are often victims of poor cleaning and lack of annual maintenance.
The oven:
•DON’T use the self-cleaner now if yours is the primary kitchen for holiday meals. Self-cleaning cycles require ovens to run at extremely high temperatures and often cause the oven’s electronic components to fail.
•DO hand-clean the oven if you have grease or debris buildup. The cleaner it is, more efficiently it will operate.
•DO check your oven’s temperature gauge. An easy way to do this is to bake a cake by exactly following the directions on a basic white cake mix. If the cake isn’t perfectly baked, you may need a service call to fix the oven, or a new cook.
•DON’T stuff the refrigerator and freezer so full that you’re blocking the air flow necessary to keep your food from perishing.
•DO clean the condenser coils. It’s an easy vacuum cleaning job for most of us and will help the fridge run efficiently. Built-ins might require a service call.
•DO check the seal. If it’s not tight, you’re losing efficiency and not keeping food properly chilled. Close the door on a thin sheet of paper and if the paper slips, your fridge is wasting energy. Replace the seal or adjust the door latch if needed.
The dishwasher:
•DON’T toss your popcorn bowl into the dishwasher without emptying the kernels in the trash; they’re notorious for jamming up the dishwasher pump and motor assembly.
•DON’T fall for those commercials that say you don’t have to rinse your dishes before putting them in the washer; a quick rinse is a good idea for all makes and models, no scrubbing required.
•DO clean your dishwasher’s filter to remove particles and debris. Filter locations vary depending on the model, so check your owner’s manual if you can’t find it.
•DO use the right amount and type of soap. Your owner’s manual will advise you. Going wrong here will affect your pump. Powdered soap tends to work better than liquid.
•DON’T wait for system failure to call in an appliance repair pro to try to repair your appliance. You may need to order the appropriate parts from the manufacturer, so acting early is best.  The rush of the holidays tends to slow the process.  The part distributors are behind along with the major mail carriers.  Calling now avoids potential problems.
